As part of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), FOCUS Connect is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older Australians through a range of supportive services. CHSP provides entry-level assistance for seniors who wish to maintain their independence and stay active in their communities. At FOCUS Connect, we offer a unique way for seniors to connect with their community, stay active, and enjoy enriching social experiences with our regular shopping trips and monthly outings.

About the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

The CHSP is designed to assist older Australians in living safely and independently. It is available to people aged 65 and over, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 and over. The program offers basic services to those who can live at home but may need a helping hand with daily activities, such as domestic assistance, transport, personal care, and social support.

With a focus on wellness and reablement, CHSP promotes a “doing with” rather than “doing for” approach. This philosophy encourages independence by helping seniors retain their abilities and engage in activities that improve their quality of life. FOCUS Connect’s social support services are in alignment with these principles, aiming to keep seniors connected and active within their communities.

Social Support Services: Shopping Trips and Outings

FOCUS Connect’s CHSP includes every-other-week shopping trips and monthly group outings. These outings provide a change of scenery, a chance to socialise, and an opportunity for seniors to participate in enjoyable activities.

Bi-Weekly Shopping Trips

Every two weeks, we organise a group shopping trip, where participants can conveniently shop for essentials and have a bit of social time with peers. This door-to-door service includes transport from home to the shopping venue and back, making it easier for seniors to pick up necessities without the worry of arranging transportation.

Monthly Outings to Local Venues

Once a month, FOCUS Connect also organises a special outing to various local venues, offering a delightful way to explore new places, enjoy a meal, or take in a show or event. These outings are designed to provide social interaction and bring a sense of adventure to the participants' lives, all while keeping safety and accessibility at the forefront.

RSVP Required for Each Activity

To ensure the best experience for everyone, an RSVP is required in advance for all activities. This allows us to coordinate transportation and plan activities that meet the interests and needs of participants. The outings are more than just trips—they are community-building experiences, providing a supportive environment for seniors to enjoy quality time with others.
