Turning Into Teens (TIT) Multicultural Parenting Program

FOCUS Connect’s Tuning Into Teens (TIT) multicultural parenting program focuses on strengthening the emotional bond between parents, carers, and their teenagers across the South West Sydney region. The program aims to improve parent-teen communication, boost emotional intelligence in teens, tackle behavioural challenges, and more.

About Tuning Into Teens (TIT)

The Tuning Into Teens program equips parents and carers with the tools and knowledge to nurture their teenager's emotional intelligence through "emotion coaching." This forward-thinking strategy helps parents to truly connect with their teens, supporting them in emotion management, addressing behavioural issues, and facilitating conflict resolution.

Building on the successful foundation of the Tuning Into Kids (TIK) program, which has proven to be effective in positively impacting young children, Tuning Into Teens aims to adapt these strategies to the unique challenges of teenage development.

Participating in this program sets parents on a path to increased emotional awareness and acceptance, for both themselves and their teens. This allows parents to offer more effective support to their teenagers in articulating and managing their emotions, thereby creating a supportive atmosphere in which feelings are recognised and valued.

How Can The Tuning Into Teens Program Help Me?

Discover the Benefits of This Program for You & Your Teen

The Tuning Into Teens program offers innovative approaches for parents and carers to effectively support their teenagers through the emotionally turbulent adolescent years. It also provides teenagers with critical skills in emotional intelligence, which are crucial for their personal development and future relationships.

In the Tuning Into Teens Program, parents and educators will be equipped to:

guide teenagers in navigating the complexities of their emotions, helping them to articulate feelings with clarity and confidence.

establish a family dynamic that prioritises empathetic listening and mutual respect, essential for the adolescent years.

encourage teenagers to express their emotions in healthy and constructive ways, respecting their growing need for independence.

cultivate an environment where open, honest discussions about emotions are the norm, bridging the communication gap between parents and teens.

equip teens with the ability to self-reflect and accurately identify their emotional states, promoting self-awareness.

implement conflict resolution techniques that promote understanding and emotional growth, recognising the unique perspectives of teens.

develop resilience in teens, enabling them to face stress and challenges with confidence and poise.

foster deeper, more meaningful connections within the family through empathy and shared experiences, acknowledging the evolving parent-teen relationship.

Teenagers who develop high emotional intelligence are more likely to:

build robust and supportive relationships, valuing empathy and mutual respect.

exhibit resilience in challenging situations, demonstrating maturity and thoughtful problem-solving.

maintain a healthy self-perception, bolstered by self-esteem and a clear sense of identity.

navigate social situations with ease, showing empathy and contributing positively to their peer group.
